The “Must-Attend” MDM Sessions at IOD11

Anju helps you navigate the MDM session choices - and recommends the Smart Site Agenda Builder
Recently, someone asked me to pick 3 “must-attend” sessions from the Master Data Management track at this year’s Information on Demand conference. I was stumped. It’s like being in Vegas and having to choose between the multitudes of options for great entertainment and restaurants. I imagine when approaching the concierge for a recommendation, s/he would ask… what are you in the mood for?
In the MDM track we have a large selection of sessions which roughly fall into 4 categories:
- IBM speaking sessions, which include product and strategy deep dives (15 sessions)
- Customer and Partner speaking sessions, which can be business or technical in nature (17 sessions)
- Demos, which range from product-centric to industry- and solution-centric demonstrations (12 stations)
- Hands-On-Labs, Ask-The-Experts, Birds of a Feather & Usability Sandbox sessions, which offer the chance to work with the product and seek advice from product experts (17 sessions)
In the interest of time and space, I’ll focus on the first 2 categories:
IBM Speaking Sessions: As you know, we’ll have an exciting announcement at IOD: the release of InfoSphere MDM v10. A definite must-see session on Monday morning at 10:15 is Jim Cushman’s session (session #IMD-2189B) describing the InfoSphere MDM product strategy and direction, including an understanding of future trends, current product portfolio capabilities and how the product is evolving to meet the needs of tomorrow.
You also don’t want to miss the sessions describing some of the new capabilities in the unified v10 offering such as BPM Express, the Probabilistic Matching Engine, and enhanced MDM-Powered Applications capabilities to name just a few. See our series of blogs describing these topics.
Customer and Partner Speaking Sessions: This year we have a great line-up of speakers (Bank of NY Mellon, Best Buy, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Cap Gemini, Cardinal Health, Cigna, Comerica Bank, DnB NOR ASA, Emdeon, Ford Motor Company, InterContinental Hotels Group, Kingland Systems, Nationwide Insurance, Northern Trust Bank of Chicago, Perficient, Royal Bank of Canada, Suncorp, US Government) representing 8 industries (Automotive, Banking, Government, Insurance, Healthcare, Hospitality, Parts & Manufacturing, and Retail). They’re coming from as far away as Australia and Norway.
This is my favorite part of IOD: hearing about the impact that our customers experience with MDM, and the challenges and lessons learned along the way. Some sessions I’m looking forward to include:
- Cardinal Health’s discussion of how their MDM journey has evolved to mastering multiple domains (IMD-2283A, Weds at 11:30 AM, Mandalay North Convention Center, Tradewinds D)
- Cigna’s discussion of the role that MDM can play in helping healthcare organizations respond to US Healthcare Reform legislation (LHC-2044A, Tues at 3:00 PM, Mandalay South Convention Center, Banyan A)
- Emdeon’s discussion of how you manage master data when you don’t own it (Tues at 11:15 AM, Mandalay North Convention Center, Tradewinds D)
- Norwegian bank, DnB NOR’s use of MDM reference data management (IMD-2494A, Weds at 4:30 PM, Mandalay North Convention Center, South Pacific H)
- Suncorp’s discussion of how MDM has helped them gain marketing insights that have led to formulating new products which are significantly improving their top line (LSA-1921B, Weds at 11:30 AM, Mandalay South Convention Center, Palm B)
- Best Buy’s discussion on the impact that InfoSphere MDM Collaboration Server (aka InfoSphere MDM Server for PIM) has on their business (IMD-3750A, Weds at 2:00 PM, Mandalay North Convention Center, Tradewinds E)
- A US Government official’s discussion on the impact that InfoSphere Identity Insight is having on their mission-critical applications (LGV-1504A, Tues at 1:45 PM, Mandalay South Convention Center, Banyan D)
Frankly, all of the customer sessions are on my “must see” list.
Finally, my colleagues have been hard at work preparing for the Hands on Labs, Demos and Usability Sandboxes, which will give you the ability to experience our products and solutions first hand. The Ask the Experts and Birds of a Feather sessions will provide a great forum to get some of your product-level questions answered, plus learn from your peers’ questions. Come find me and my colleagues at the EXPO or in the demo room, and we’ll be happy to chat further.
I’ve created this MDM roadmap to provide you with information about all of our sessions including a brief abstract to help you choose which sessions are of most interest to you. And don’t forget the Agenda Builder to help you build your schedule.
As you make your selections of which sessions to choose, remember that like choosing between world-renowned entertainment and restaurants when in Vegas: it’s hard to go wrong.
