Forrest Gump on MDM, Simplified

Alex explains how to get to the "kick ass curve" for MDM. (via Kathy Sierra.)
When I got tired, I slept. When I got hungry, I ate. When I had to go, you know, I went.
Some MDM projects are like this scene in Forrest Gump....they just seem to keep going and going....
But Forrest was a simple man. Your MDM project can be just as straightforward if you follow Forrest's (or his mama's) advice. Our mission:
- Make MDM easy to implement and intuitive to use
- Simplify the learning curve for implementation services and customers - get them to the "I kick ass" line discussed by User Experience Guru Kathy Sierra as soon as possible
- Lower the TCO to manage and maintain MDM
Forrest ran for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours. Sound familiar?
So how exactly did we accomplish this?
Simpler algorithm configuration: With some systems, it seems like you had to be smart enough to catch Forrest's reference to quantum duality (see the fourth bullet). With InfoSphere MDM v10, algorithm configuration is only a few clicks away. Terms like “weight generation” and "Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve" (or "ROC Curve") don't need to be in your vocabulary to use them to optimize your algorithm – the system handles that for you. We've even broadened the technologies that use algorithms - see Eric Trenk's post for details.
Simpler Real-Time Integration: Multiple new configuration capabilities enable MDM developers to tailor real-time API calls to align with existing business application models. This includes additional REST APIs to facilitate the creation of Web 2.0 user experiences (the same APIs that support the MDM Application Toolkit Alex Eastman wrote about). In addition, Henk Alblas shares more about the new Adaptive Services Interface that makes it easier and faster to integrate MDM services to support predefined interfaces for applications and business processes.
Simpler International Deployments: With the seamless integration of Global Name Management (GMN), which is part - but not all - of IBM's Global Name Recognition suite, matching international data is easier and more accurate than ever. The use of international name variants (nicknames) to link records together enables InfoSphere MDM v10 to handle international data even more effectively that before. And the list of supported international locales continues to grow.
With some technologies, "Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get." We’ve worked hard to make sure when you open our box and begin to deploy MDM you get simplicity.
Mrs. Gump said, “You have to do the best with what God gave you.”
Fortunately, you don't. Check out the Information on Demand Deep Dive Sessions for InfoSphere MDM v10 recommended by Anju. Your Mama (and your business stakeholders) will thank you. I’ll also be presenting a Deep Dive on IBM Initiate Master Data Service (IOD Session #IMD-2494A) on Monday, October 24 at 2:15 PM.
Can’t attend IOD? We’re publishing several blog posts in coming days to give you more details on some of the features and use cases. See the list of posts and topics.
