Securing MDM with InfoSphere Guardium Data Activity Monitor

InfoSphere MDM 10 integrates with Guardium to help secure your data

The number of discussions related to master data and governance are increasing. Of course, that only makes sense as the value of master data is so strongly linked to the trust that can be put in it. Knowing who has touched the master data is very important to maintaining that trust.

When you combine that need for trust with the reality that the master data may include sensitive data (whether personal sensitive data or business critical data), you may need to deploy appropriate security measures.

IBM InfoSphere MDM V10 has added integration with another IBM offering, InfoSphere Guardium Data Activity Monitor, providing secure and centralized database logging and tracking capabilities for InfoSphere MDM’s database.

You can use Guardium to record information specific to InfoSphere MDM, such as the name of the MDM service that was run, the name of the user that initiated the request, the associated transaction ID, timestamp, and various other pieces of information to help the customer effectively audit calls made to the InfoSphere MDM database.

As this information can be combined with the same information for other databases in the customer’s environment, a comprehensive view across several functions can be achieved. This helps improve detection of inappropriate or suspicious activities, aiding overall database security and policy enforcement.

Customers who have InfoSphere Guardium Database Activity Monitor can simply turn on Guardium logging and configure what InfoSphere MDM data is to be recorded through simple configuration settings.

The addition of integration with InfoSphere Guardium Data Activity Monitor gives InfoSphere MDM implementers another tool that, with minimal effort and risk, can be added to the systems architecture to achieve not only a highly functional MDM solution, but also a highly secure one.
